THE BIRDS AND THE TREES, 2010
These works on paper were presented as a solo exhibition at the Center for Performance Research in Brooklyn, New York. This was in conjunction with the performance, Galvanic Folklore from the Accelerating Universe, by dancer and choreographer Cori Kresge. These large scale drawings were started at an earlier performance of the first live performance of The Veil of Forgetfulness, an opera by Susan Stoderl. The images highlight organic growth and connections between the body, nature, and movement. As the dancers in Kresge’s piece search for cellular memory of evolution, the biomorphic shapes in my large drawings suggest cellular evolution taking place inside in response to to changing environmental conditions outside, in a world that is being altered at a such an accelerated rate that biology can barely keep up.
