SandarbhUS Artist Residency, 2008
These images were made during the SandarbhUS residency in Moultrie, GA. The Sandarbh residency originates in India (which I participated later, in 2009), where a group of international artists are placed in a rural environment to make and exhibit work, ideally involving local communities. The work I made was in response to the unfortunate legacy of slavery and to historical and present day racial tension not only in the deep south, but also in the north. These images are about how people are separated, but also interwoven and entwined through hatred and conflict as well as resolution and tolerance.
