Sea Paintings, 2008-2011
In these paintings, all created on a traditional marble ground gesso surface, I take my fascination with distended and distorted tree limbs, insects, birds, intestines, breasts and bellies into the sea. I am curious about where life really begins. Deep in the oceans there are hydrothermal vents where, some scientists, believe, might be the springboard for the earliest forms of life. I am curious how, as humans, that remote landscape of the deepest ocean is perhaps connected to us and how we began.
