Impossible Landscapes: Tree Planets, 2011
Tree Planets are a series of drawings depicting unimaginable scenarios within the natural world. Trees become small planets and sail away like asteroids. For years I have been inspired by the drawing on the cover of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's, Le Petit Prince. The Little Prince is so small and yet relatively large in relation to the planet on which he stands. That image has always stuck with me as a symbol of both isolation and childhood curiosity and imagination. Impossible Landscapes as a series holds a claim to this same curiosity but also points to a future in which our planet has been so ravaged, that it is falling apart and blowing away in pieces by huge wind and wild storms.
